Equal Opportunities Scholarship

The Equal Opportunities Scholarship Program

The Rizal Lee Equal Opportunities Scholarship (EOS) is administered out from Hong Kong.

The main objective of the EOS is to promote equal opportunities for needy Malaysians students. It is to make it possible for students to pursue their dreams of a diploma or degree regardless of an underprivileged family background, rural environment or other forms of social disadvantage.

Field of Study

There is no restriction on the field of study. However, the scholarship is only for study at a local university or college in Malaysia.

- Applicants should be below 25 years of age at the time of application
- Applicants must not be receiving financial aid or rewards from other organization
- Applicants must possess reasonably good results in the UEC / SPM / STPM or equivalent
- Applicants currently in their second or third year of college studies should possess a high GPA score in their previous two semesters
- Applicants need to have an e-mail account to receive updates on the scholarship.

Scholarship Stipend

The maximum stipend for each EOS is equivalent to HK$12,000. Actual value of each scholarship varies, depending on individual needs of the applicant.

The scholarship is renewable yearly subject to proof of outstanding academic performance the previous year.

Two EOS scholarships will be granted for 2008. This number may increase in subsequent years.

Payment to the successful applicant will be by term or semester. To promote accountability and transparency, successful candidates MAY be required to provide proof of invoices/receipts of tuition fees, hostel fees, etc.

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo a written test and attend an interview in either Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bharu and Kuantan.

Obligation of Successful Applicants

The successful applicant will sign an agreement with the sponsor that within 5 years upon graduation, he or she will offer a similar stipend for the same purpose to another deserving non-family member. The applicant may self-administer such arrangement, and is not obliged to administer it as part of this EOS program.

The EOS Selection Panel

Apart from the sponsor, the panel will include a student counselor at a Kuala Lumpur secondary school and one or two more secondary school teachers. All decisions of the EOS Selection Panel are final. The rights of decision rest with the Rizal Lee EOS.

When to Apply

Application is open all year round, and closes once the two scholarships are awarded.
